Amy Jade Winehouse (*1983 in Southgate, London; † 2011 in Camden, London) war eine talentierte Sängerin und Songschreiberin, die bis zu ihrem Tod in 2011 stark mit Londons Stadtteil Camden Town verbunden war.

Den internationalen Durchbruch schaffte sie 2006 mit dem Album „Back to Black“, mit dem sie fünf Grammys absahnte. Man erinnert sich an sie durch Songs wie „Rehab,“ „Back to Black“ and „Valerie.“ Sie verkaufte in ihrer achtjährigen Karriere über 25 Millionen Tonträger.

Mein London-Tipp: Der Sängerin zu Ehren wurde im Herzen des Stables Market eine Bronze-Skulptur als Denkmal gesetzt. Amy ist mit ihrer typischen Bienenstock-Frisur, der Davidstern-Halskette und einer echten roten Rose in ihrem Haar dargestellt. Die koksgraue Skulptur ist eine Arbeit des britischen Bildhauers Scott Eaton geschaffen, der den Auftrag bekam, da sein Entwurf Winehouse Vater überzeugt hatte.

With „Back to Black“, her second and final studio album she became famous and won five Grammy Awards. Amy is remembered for songs like „Rehab,“ „Back to Black“ and „Valerie.“

My London tip: A bronze sculpture, which sports Winehouse’s signature beehive hairstyle, a star of David necklace and a live red rose in her hair, was placed in the heart of the Stables Market as a memorial to the singer. The charcoal grey work was created by the British sculptor Scott Eaton. The artist had gained the commission after showing his ideas to Winehouse’s father.
