Im Schatten des höchsten Londoner Wolkenkratzers, dem Shard, liegt der älteste Lebensmittelmarkt der Stadt. Der Lebensmittelmarkt, einer meiner Top 10 London-Tipps, befindet sich im Stadtteil Southwark und liegt südlich der Themse. Der Straßenmarkt befindet sich in einer alten Lagerhalle und ist daher auch ein Schlecht-Wetter-Tipp. Hier kaufen die Küchenchefs der großen Restaurants ein. Rund um den Markt haben sich Restaurants, Bars und Unterhaltungsbetriebe, sowie Geschäfte angesiedelt.

Der Markt existiert bereits seit des 13. Jahrhunderts. Er wurde im Jahr 1754, aufgrund zunehmender Verkehrsbehinderung, per Gesetz abgeschafft. Zwei Jahre später eröffnete der Markt wieder, nachdem sich einige Anwohner das Grundstück gekauft hatten. Aufgrund stetiger Sanierungsarbeiten ist der Markt bis heute gut erhalten und zieht durch sein, mittlerweile, vielfältiges Sortiment Touristen und Locals an.

Er wurde als Drehort für die Filme „Bridget Jones – Schokolade zum Frühstück“ und „Harry Potter und der Gefangene von Askaban“ genutzt.

Überall duftet es nach einladenden Gerüchen. Das macht die Entscheidung, was man kaufen und essen möchte, nicht gerade einfacher. Zum Glück laden die Händler zum Kosten und Probieren ein. Die Qualität der Nahrungsmittel ist hier hervorragend, deswegen auch nicht immer ganz billig. Ihr findet hier Lebensmittel aus aller Herren Ländern:

In the shadow of the Shard, Londons highest skyscraper, you can find the oldest food market of London. The grocery store, known for variety and quality, is located in the district of Southwark and south of the River Thames. The street market is based in an old warehouse and is therefor a bad weather tip. The chefs of famous restaurants buy their groceries here. Around the market there are restaurants, bars and entertainment establishments.

The Borough market has existed since the 13th century. Thanks to the constant renovation of the market and the abundant supply it attracts locals and tourists.

The Borough Market was used as a film location for the films „Bridget Jones – Diary“ and „Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban“.

It smells fantastic, so it’s not easy to decide what to buy and eat. Fortunately the dealers invite you to taste their products. The quality of food is excellent, so it’s not always cheap. You can buy food from all over the world:
